Melbourne Victory's Archie Thompson has been given a two match ban by the independent Match Review Panel. Thompson was given a straight red card for dissent by referee Matthew Breeze in Saturday's match against the Newcastle Jets at EnergyAustralia Stadium. The two match sanction given to the striker includes the mandatory one match suspension for a red card (minimum offence) plus a further one match imposed by the panel. Thompson felt his actions were not typical of the way he usually behaves and apologised after the decision had been made. "I realise I've let the club and my teammates down and have apologised to the Coach and the playing group," he said. "My actions were out of character, but it doesn't change the fact that I made an error. "I would like to apologise to Matthew Breeze, as well as the large contingent of Victory members and supporters and football fans in general."
