Victorious Chelsea boss Mourinho ok with referee performance

Jose Mourinho did not feel Chelsea should have been penalised before scoring the winner in their 2-1 triumph over Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

The Blues found themselves in front just seven minutes in at Stamford Bridge when Antonio Luna deflected into his own net but Christian Benteke replied for Villa on the stroke of half-time.

A tussle between Benteke and Branislav Ivanovic occurred in the second half with the latter swinging a dangerous arm toward the goalscorer but the Chelsea man was able to stay on the pitch and ended up scoring a 73rd minute winner with his head from a Frank Lampard free-kick.

After the match, Villa boss Paul Lambert bemoaned the non-decision but Mourinho felt it was simply part of English football.

"This is the Premier League. This is English football," he told Sky Sports.

"For some reason the world loves it more than any other league: one thing is a real aggression, another thing is duels.

"I think the referee did very, very well. From minute one to minute 95 there was a real fight, a football fight between Benteke and Ivanovic.

"Fouls for one side, fouls for another side. I think that's football."
