In the second week of the VPL play offs in Melbourne, favourites Dandenong and Green Gully were both sent crashing to defeat.
In Dandenong's case, the minor premier lost out to last season's champions Altona Magic. The Magic's best player was former West Ham, Sydney FC and South Melbourne centre back Steve Laurie who dominated the defence and held out against barrage after barrage of Dandenong attacks.
Meanwhile newcomers Hume City, led by player-coach Andy Vlahos turfed out perennial finalists Green Gully.
Vlahos, the former Carlton and Panathinaikos striker, only took the reins after former South Melbourne star Goran Lozanovski was sacked after a wretched start to the season and has done an impeccable job in taking Hume City to the third week of the play-off series.
Vlahos must be a contender for VPL coach of the season for the great work he has done at Hume City.
