Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nelsen, in a sign of support to new boss Steve Kean, has signed a new deal with the club, keeping him at Ewood Park until the summer of 2013. The 33-year-old New Zealand international joined Rovers from DC United in 2005 and has been a first-team regular throughout his stay, making more than 200 appearances for the club.
He captained his country in last year's World Cup and, last month, was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to football.
He had been very vocal in his disappointment at the recent sacking of Sam Allardyce but with this one year extension appears to be backing the new manager, Steve Kean.
