Veteran Campbell reveals Premiership interest in his services

Sol Campbell has left Newcastle after his one-year contract expired so is now a free agent and is considering his options. The 36-year-old would like to sign a deal before the start of July, he may start pre-season training with a local club until he makes a decision.

"I'll do a pre-season with a London club - I'm not allowed to go anywhere else!" he told Sky Sports News.

"I'd like to join someone by the beginning of July, to join up with the lads wherever I am."

Asked if any Premier League clubs had been in contact, he replied: "There's been a couple so we'll see."

The ex-Tottenham, Arsenal and Portsmouth defender believes he is fit enough to remain in the top flight.

"I love playing football and that's what it's all about," he added.

"I'll play another couple of years, a year - it depends on the manager and how you fit in really.

"I'm not going to play just for playing's sake - I've got to really enjoy it.

"I think a lot of players now are looking after their body's well.

"Maybe 10 years ago, 30-year-olds might be saying 'I've had enough'.

"But now, especially with goalkeepers and players who have really looked after themselves - 35-plus, it's not a problem."
