Vertonghen reflects on five years at Tottenham

Jan Vertonghen says he cannot believe he has been at Tottenham Hotspur for five years already.

Vertonghen joined Tottenham Hotspur from Ajax Amsterdam during the summer of 2012 and since his arrival to North London, the Belgian international has managed to establish himself as one of the best defenders in the English top flight.

The 30-year-old recently completed his five year anniversary at Tottenham and has now expressed his pride at being a key part in helping Spurs progress exponentially over the past few seasons.

Vertonghen said: "This is my sixth pre-season here, I can't believe it! And it's great to be here. Five years…it's crazy really. I looked at some photographs from my first season (2012-13) and it seems a while back now!

"I've had a great time. Lots of things have changed, people coming and going, I even had a couple of months at the old training ground (Spurs Lodge). Hugo and Mousa joined in the same window.

"Danny Rose was on loan (to Sunderland) then Harry joined the first team squad the year after. If you look at where we are now, we've improved every season and it's great to be part of that."
