Veron told the Daily Mail: "My reputation took a battering in England and Eriksson had the same trouble in charge of the national team.
"If we analyse his career then I believe that Lazio was his best moment. He won four trophies there by creating a team with a great spirit and confidence. He worked on that right from the moment he arrived.
"Under Eriksson everybody was totally united, the players, the staff and the supporters. There were no divisions. That is his cornerstone. That was the basis of him taking Lazio above clubs like Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan. If he can get that spirit going at City then he can do wonderful things with another big club who have been down for too long.
"For me, his time with England was not so negative, though he did have at his disposal the best generation of English players. But he will do a great job at City. Eriksson has all the qualities needed to be a great Premier League coach."
