Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen has heaped praise on Jack Wilshere following his performance in the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

The 21-year old midfielder scored with a cracking 20-yard volley as the Gunners edged Swansea City 1-0 in their third round replay at the Emirates Stadium abut it was his all-round performance which was noted by his skipper.

"He's a world-class midfielder and he showed again today, he played really well and was important for us," said Vermaelen.

"I'm really happy for him that he got the goal, and happy for the team."

Arsenal will next meet Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Community Stadium in the fourth round on January 26.
