Pim Verbeek has named the final squad for next week's World Cup qualifier against Qatar. Initially there was a squad of 35 but Verbeek has culled seven players and will now use a group of 28. Those missing out are the injured trio of Mark Bresciano, Vince Grella and Harry Kewell whilst A-League stars Shannon Cole (Sydney FC), Ante Covic (Newcastle Jets), and Central Coast pair Matt Simon and Alex Wilkinson have been left out. Tim Cahill's first-class return from injury ensures he gets a chance to start as does Scott McDonald who is back, fit and firing with a goal for Celtic on the weekend. Mile Jedinak's double for the Mariners impressed selectors as does the form of all four Adelaide United players (Eugene Galekovic, Robert Cornthwaite, Scott Jamieson and Paul Reid) who have their hands full with the Asian Champions League on Wednesday night, but will join the national squad the following day. The 28-man squad is as follows: Jacob Burns (Unirea Urziceni, ROM), Tim Cahill (Everton, ENG), David Carney (Sheffield United, ENG), Scott Chipperfield (FC Basel, SUI), Robert Cornthwaite (Adelaide United), Chris Coyne (Colchester United, ENG), Jason Culina (PSV Eindhoven, NED), Bruce Djite (Genclerbirligi, TUR), Brett Emerton (Blackburn Rovers, ENG), Eugene Galekovic (Adelaide United), Richard Garcia (Hull City, ENG), Brett Holman (AZAlkmaar, NED), Scott Jamieson (Adelaide United), Mile Jedinak (Central Coast Mariners), Josh Kennedy (Karlsruhe, GER), Scott McDonald (Celtic, SCO), Craig Moore (Queensland Roar), Stuart Musialik (Sydney FC), Lucas Neill (West Ham, ENG), Jade North (Newcastle Jets), Michael Petkovic (Sivasspor, TUR), Paul Reid (Adelaide United), Mark Schwarzer (Fulham, ENG), Matthew Spiranovic (Nurnberg, GER), Shane Stefanutto (FC Lyn, NOR), Mile Sterjovski (Derby County, ENG), Archie Thompson (Melbourne Victory), Luke Wilkshire (Dinamo Moscow, RUS).
