Verbeek admits he is worried about fitness of Socceroos stars

Australian national team coach Pim Verbeek admits he is worried about some of his Socceroos stars leading into the World Cup later this year. Galatasaray star Harry Kewell and Palermo's Mark Bresciano are both battling injuries that are keeping them out of the game and have them way down on match fitness for the tournament in South Africa which kicks off in June and Verbeek says it is definitely a problem.

"I have to be honest I'm a little bit worried about Kewell and Bresciano," Verbeek said.

"Archie Thompson (Melbourne Victory) won't be at the World Cup and (Patrick) Kisnorbo (Leeds United) will miss the World Cup.

"The list is getting smaller and smaller because of injuries. I just hope players stay fit.

"Kewell and Bresciano haven't played since December.

"Bresh (Bresciano) has a back problem, which has been bothering him for months and hopefully he'll be ready in May."

Verbeek also has the added problem of key defender Craig Moore being without a club after he was sacked by Greek club Kavala earlier this week and the Dutchman will need to do some tinkering in the next few months to get his players up to scratch for the world's biggest sporting event.

At least national team coaches were travelling around the world, keeping an eye on the players, as confirmed by Verbeek.

"Henk Duut, was in England and now he's back in the Netherlands," Verbeek added.

"Graham Arnold is on his way to England, so we are travelling around and focusing on the players."
