Former England coach Terry Venables says Roy Hodgson must go with Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck ahead of Liverpool's Andy Carroll.
Venables wrote in The Sun: "Welbeck and Andy Carroll are the two front-runners and I would choose the Manchester man.
"He may not have been a regular for the Red Devils this season, but whenever he has appeared for England he has shown he has some international class.
"His finish against Belgium was exceptional and with his club colleague on his shoulder, I feel he just shades Carroll.
"That is not to say the Liverpool hitman will not have an impact.
"Carroll showed in the closing weeks of the season he could be a force off the bench. Likewise Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
"The 4-4-1-1 is a much tighter system than the one Fabio Capello fielded in South Africa.
"And with Welbeck spearheading the attack, it can be more successful, too."
