Vaughan delighted with winning home debut for Sunderland

David Vaughan was delighted with victory over Stoke City on his full home debut for Sunderland.

The ex-Blackpool man felt Sunderland's early goal burst - they were two goals ahead after just 11 minutes - helped the players to settle and go on to record their biggest home victory since March 2010.

"It was a great result and to get our first win of the season under our belts is fantastic," Vaughan told safc.com. "I think things worked well with Craig today. Our games complement each other.

"Craig likes to get forward and get on the end of crosses whereas I prefer to sit a bit deeper, so it works well. I'm just glad we got the win in the end. The early goal was great for our confidence - we got the crowd behind us and went on from there.

"It's quite rare to see a goal from Titus but he did well and we didn't look back.

"The win is a huge confidence booster for us. Hopefully we can carry on and put a strong run of form together now."
