DC United have officially completed the signing of Spanish winger Carlos Varela.

The 32-year old has signed a deal until the end of the 2010 MLS season after trialling with United for the past few weeks.

Varela will need to obtain an International Transfer Certificate before he is eligible to play for the club but general manager Dave Kasper welcomed the inclusion of the former Neuchatel Xamax, Young Boys and FC Basel man.

"We are pleased to have come to an agreement with Carlos for the rest of 2010," said Kasper. "He is an experienced midfielder who has excellent attacking qualities, and we look forward to taking a close look at him with a view towards next season."
