Manchester United defender Chris Smalling believes that the success of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy could lead to the emergence of other talents from non-league football.

Vardy, who created the record of scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League games in the draw with the Red Devils on Saturday, was playing in non-league football as recently as 2012.

The 26-year-old defender feels that clubs should start paying attention to the emerging talents in lower tiers of football in order to find some genuine bargains.

"Especially when you think how much money people are costing," said Smalling.

"If you can find some hidden gems, it's a no-brainer. With Jamie's success, I think you will see them have a little bit more of a look in the non-League region."

Smalling also believes that player, such as himself and Vardy, taking the long route through non-league football remain grounded. He added: "I think they do. It's one job getting here - but it's 10 times harder making sure you stay here."
