Omar Salgado has undergone surgery on his foot after re-injuring a previous problem area in his foot.
The Vancouver Whitecaps forward re-fractured his fifth metatarsal at a USA U20 training camp after initially injuring the area last year and will now go through rehab in order to return to action later in the year.
"There is no question that the last year has been challenging for Omar but we are optimistic and look forward to seeing him back on the pitch in the near future," said Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie.
"On behalf of the club, I wish him a speedy recovery."
Salgado, who was taken with pick number one in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, has made 24 appearances for the Whitecaps, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
