Vancouver Whitecaps trade Tan to DC United, release Franks

Vancouver Whitecaps have traded striker Long Tan to DC United in exchange for a draft pick.

The 24-year old Chinese forward has struggled to make an impact with the Whitecaps since his arrival last year and will now head to Washington with DC's third-round pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft heading to Vancouver.

In addition to Tan's trade, Vancouver decided to waive midfielder Floyd Franks who played under Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie at Carolina RailHawks.

"It's more the fact that he wasn't in our team," Rennie said of Franks.

"He's a player that's used to starting pretty much every game over the last five years and he's a guy who really wants to be starting and to be playing, and I can understand that. At this point we don't see him getting into the starting line-up so that was the decision we made."
