Vancouver Whitecaps' Thordarson frustrated with mediocre beginning

Teitur Thordarson admits the start to Vancouver Whitecaps' debut MLS season has been a frustrating one.

The Canadian outfit won their first match in fine fashion with a 4-2 result at home on opening day but have followed that up with three draws and four losses in their next seven to fall to 15th of 18 in the league.

Vancouver lost another match on the road when they went down 2-1 at Columbus Crew on the weekend, testing coach Thordarson's patience.

"It is absolutely frustrating, no doubt about that," he told the Vancouver Sun after the game. "But we will come stronger again. We work hard and the team will definitely be stronger and stronger."

At least there were two positive performances to excite Thordarson with midfielder Gershon Koffie returning from Ghana U20 duty whilst teenager Omar Salgado supplied the only goal for the losing 'Caps as he continues to develop at the top level.

"I felt Gershon was huge, maybe the best player on the field.," Thordarson added. "He hardly made a mistake, won a lot of balls and played people through." "He (Salgado) has to get better at keeping the ball when we play him as a target player but he's still young and has qualities I really like.

"He's very good at going in behind the back line. He's also fast and getting very much stronger and has a great shot. He's also very good in the air."
