Vancouver Whitecaps skipper DeMerit rues controversial call as Green Bay Packers go down

Vancouver Whitecaps captain Jay DeMerit was left to rue an extremely controversial decision which saw his beloved Green Bay Packers go down 14-12 in the NFL on Monday night.

DeMerit was present at CenturyLink Field when referees made the contentious call to award a late touchdown to the Seattle Seahawks despite Packers' safety MD Jennings having a hand on the Hail Mary pass which was caught in the end zone by Seahawks receiver Golden Tate.

The incident was reviewed but the in-play decision stood and DeMerit feels Green Bay were cheated out of victory but admits that human error is part of the refereeing caper.

"There was a lot of sad faces - well, angry faces I should say. It just goes to show reffing in all sports is always something (there's) going to be a spotlight on, so it's pretty funny," he said.

"I've been getting all sorts of texts from all my friends. Such is life.

"It happens on all levels and you can see that as well. It's important. Refereeing is important. Now, with cameras and technology, you can see how even more important it is now because everyone can eyes see.

"It was a hard pill to swallow."
