Vancouver Whitecaps new boy Laba excited to move on after Toronto stint

Matias Laba insists he is looking forward to the next phase of his MLS career with Vancouver Whitecaps.

The 22-year old Argentine midfielder was traded to the Whitecaps by Toronto FC last week after failing to make an impact at the BMO Field in his debut season in North America.

Laba, who arrived in Toronto from homeland club Argentinos Juniors, is now saddling up for the 2014 campaign with TFC's Canadian rivals Vancouver and is excited about putting his best foot forward for the BC Place outfit.

Laba revealed that it was always his intention to stay in MLS and has thanked the 'Caps for giving him the opportunity to do so.

"I intended to stay in MLS and I'm extremely happy Vancouver wanted me," Laba said through a translator.

"I spoke with the coach right when I arrived and everyone has received me very well. I'm excited to show what I've got on the field.

"At first, [TFC] told me that I'd have the opportunity to stay, though there was a small possibility. But unfortunately, it didn't work out.

"It was difficult until now in that I didn't know where I was going to play and my situation wasn't resolved, but then Vancouver came along and now I'm very happy."

The holding midfielder made 17 appearances for Toronto last season, scoring one goal in a victory over New England Revolution.
