Vancouver Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi admits the club is looking to bring in defensive cover for Lee Young-pyo.
The 35-year old South Korean left-back has committed himself to the Whitecaps cause for 2013 after an impressive debut season in MLS but the Canadian club wants a back-up so they can manage his ageing body.
The man in question is believed to be Canada U23 international Andres Fresenga who is currently contracted to Uruguayan outfit Racing Club de Montevideo.
"We had watched the (Olympic qualifying) games and assumed he was unavailable," Lenarduzzi told MLSsoccer.com recently.
"But he had connected with (Canadian Soccer Association technical director) Tony Fonseca, who in turn had talked to us about his interest in coming on trial.
"With Y.P. (Lee) re-signing, we know that he's going to be the primary starter in that position," Lenarduzzi added.
"But, what we also want to do is make sure that we don't play him as much as we did last year, especially with the travel, which was something which took a toll on him."
