Vancouver Whitecaps expect new coach by next week, have Bradley contingency

Vancouver Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi suggests the MLS club could have a new head coach by early next week.

The Canadian outfit are on the hunt for a replacement for Martin Rennie, following their decision to sever ties with the Scotsman at the end of the 2013 season, and Lenarduzzi says the announcement could be made shortly.

"It's imperative that we get it done as soon as possible," Lenarduzzi told Vancouver radio station TEAM 1040.

"We're in a situation where it's not necessarily something that we're in complete control and that we can announce that coach whenever we want.

"We also have to acknowledge that the people that we're talking to have commitments and don't have the ability to make that decision as quickly as we would like. Having said all of that, I would hope that by next week that we would be able to confirm who the next coach of the Whitecaps will be."

Former USA and Egypt boss Bob Bradley is reportedly the frontrunner for the position but Lenarduzzi insists there is a contingency plan in place.

"We're relatively confident that the people that are in the final stages for the opportunity to coach the Whitecaps are very interested in the club," Lenarduzzi added. "But until we actually get that commitment, we need to have a Plan A, a Plan B and a Plan C."
