Van Nistelrooy admits he may quit Real Madrid to rescue World Cup place

Ruud van Nistelrooy has declared he may quit Real Madrid to rescue his World Cup chances.

The former Manchester United striker is desperate to make Bert van Marwijk's Holland squad and says: "I want to play.

"I have not spoken with (coach Manuel) Pellegrini, also because I have just returned from a long time off (with injury).

"But when he comes back (from Chile) we'll talk, because I want to try to understand: if I do not play enough, I could leave in January."

The Dutch striker added: "My intention is to play in the World Cup with Holland. But if you do not play, it is impossible to be selected. Other clubs? No, I do not have any formal agreement with anyone else."
