Former Holland striker Pierre van Hooijdonk says Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal will get the best from Memphis Depay.

Van Hooijdonk is confident Depay will continue to produce in the Premier League and light up the Theatre of Dreams.

He told the People: “First of all, it's ­important that you work under a coach who really likes you as a player, a coach who thinks you are capable of doing something great. Van Gaal knows him from the World Cup, where he did well.

“Depay started against Costa Rica and the games he came on, against Argentina and Brazil, he had a ­decent World Cup. That raised his profile in Holland.

“I wouldn't say he was one of their best players, but he showed he had the ­confidence and belief and was very instrumental for PSV last season."
