Van Hooijdonk: Arsenal ace Van Persie enters Euros at very top of game

Pierre van Hooijdonk says Arsenal captain Robin van Persie goes into the Euros at the very top of his game.

His old strike partner hopes he hits the ground running in tomorrow's opener against Denmark.

Van Hooijdonk told the Scottish Sun : "Robin was always confident, even when he was a teenager breaking through. He was sure of his own qualities and everyone at Feyenoord knew he would go places.

"He was young but he was THAT good.

"I always expected him to go to the top. You could tell he would play for a big club and now he is operating at the highest level.

"He's had a fantastic season at Arsenal and will be playing with confidence. But there is also pressure on him.

"On Saturday, everything starts and it's all about performing. If we don't then the real pressure starts. Robin holds the key. He hasn't done particularly well for the national side over the last two years - particularly at the last World Cup.

"Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has not been in the team recently but he has been great for the national side - his record is very impressive.

"I would play them both together. If we do that, we have a good chance to win the tournament."
