Former Vitesse Arnhem midfielder Marco van Ginkel admits he hesitated when Chelsea came in for him earlier this summer.
However, the Holland international says talks with Blues manager Jose Mourinho quickly convinced him about the move.
"I was ready for a step higher, however, Chelsea is a big step," Van Ginkel said.
"I did not know what exactly they were planning for me, whether to come to play or to loan me out.
"At one time I was home and I got a text message from Mourinho. He then called me. That call took away all my doubts. Mourinho expressed his confidence in me, said I'd get to play this season and he would not let me go away on-loan."
