Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is determined to prise Kevin Strootman away from AS Roma. The Mirror says Van Gaal is putting a deal in place to land Strootman in January.
Strootman, 24, is back in training after missing out on his nation's third-place finish in Brazil with a cruciate injury. But he is not expected to play until the Autumn.
United will make their move in January - which is why the loss of Michael Carrick for the first two months of the season with an ankle injury has come as such a huge blow for Van Gaal.
Strootman only moved to Roma 12 months ago from PSV Eindhoven.
