Van Gaal tells Carrick he remains a key Man Utd member

Louis van Gaal has given Michael Carrick assurances regarding his future at Manchester United, according to the Manchester Evening News.

With Carrick entering the twilight of his career at 33, allied by the fact that expensive recruits Morgan Schniederlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger have arrived at United this summer, it has been suspected that the Englishman could struggle for playing time during the upcoming campaign.

However according to MEN Sport, manager van Gaal has told Carrick that he remains a big part of his plans at Old Trafford and is planning to keep hold of the midfielder on a rolling contract, similarly to the ones handed out to Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs previously.
