Louis van Gaal wants Manchester United to buy Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels.
Van Gaal could be confirmed as United manager this week.
The Sunday Mirror says Van Gaal has identified German star Hummels as the defensive rock on which he will rebuild Manchester United.
Landing Hummels - a £30million-rated defensive lynchpin for Dortmund and Germany - is Van Gaal's top priority.
He has always regretted selling the 25-year-old when he was in charge of Bayern Munich.
