Van Gaal keen to speak with Liverpool about director's post

Louis van Gaal is being lined up for the football director's job at Liverpool. The Daily Mail says Van Gaal has emerged as the leading contender to become Liverpool's new Sporting Director as Fenway Sports Group aim to accelerate their revamp of the club.

And Van Gaal could even make a pitch for the vacant job as Liverpool manager.

The former Ajax and Holland coach has been out of work since he was sacked by Bayern Munich 13 months ago.

When former Director of Football Damien Comolli was sacked six weeks ago, Van Gaal was immediately nominated as being in the frame to replace the Fremchman.

He is understood to be intrigued by the prospect of working in England and his ability to nurture and promote young talent is something that would appeal to FSG.
