Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is happy for the club to continue their long-term pursuit of Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.
The Portugal international has been followed by United for the past 18 months and a move away could be on this summer.
Lisbon sources state Sporting turned down a €30 million offer from Tottenham on the weekend for Carvalho, with the Portuguese giants referring all suitors to the player's €45 million buyout clause.
Van Gaal is a big fan and believes given Carvalho's youth and experience, paying a premium price would still be good business for United.
Much will depend, however, on United's pursuit of their No1 midfield transfer target this summer, Arturo Vidal, of Juventus.
