Van Gaal: Capello, Eriksson have wrecked my England chance

Louis van Gaal feels Fabio Capello has wrecked his chance of landing the England job.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp, recovering from Wednesday heart surgery, remains the clear favourite to replace Capello after Euro 2012.

But Van Gaal, sacked by Bayern last season after a fall-out with his squad and the German club's hierarchy, believes any hopes he had of the England job have been scuppered.

Van Gaal, now 60 and currently not in a job, coached his homeland from 2000-2002.

"I wanted to coach a national team once more, but gave up on the idea," he said.

"There no longer seems to be a possible country and the opportunity has become so small.

"Virtually no-one appoints a foreign coach any more.

"England tried it twice with Eriksson and Capello and the two of them have poisoned the chance for the rest of us. They have screwed it up for the rest.

"You can bet that the next time they have to make an appointment, the FA will quickly appoint an Englishman."
