Newcastle Jets coach Gary van Egmond has left the club to take up a position with the Australian Institute of Sport. The decision has left the Jets fuming after van Egmond was recently given a contract extension by owner Con Constantine.

"Con's not a happy man," said Jets CEO John Tsatsimas.

"All he said to me was that you give these guys the world and look what they do to you.

"I was stunned because nothing was said while were in Korea (for the Asian Champions League).

"It had nothing to with our big (6-0) defeat to Pohang Steelers.

"It was very rude that no one contacted me about what was going on. After all, Gary had a four-year contract with the club."
