Van der Vaart assures Spurs fans: I will be stronger next season

Rafael van der Vaart says he'll be in better shape next season to give his best for Tottenham.

The £8million signing from Real Madrid attributes his difficulties to a lack of preparation time and the physical demands of the Premier League - and he vowed to be better equipped to cope next season.

"I've played in Holland, Germany, Spain and now England and this league is more tough," Van der Vaart told the London Evening Standard. "I've normally had a little break at Christmas but here you play at that time of year.

"Also, after the World Cup last year, I had just two weeks off, which means your body is a little bit more tired after the games and during the games. But you try to help the team and I have to say it's getting better and better and I think next year is going to be easier.

"Before next season, I'll have a full pre-season and a good holiday. Mentally, it's also really important that you have a few weeks off. We lost the World Cup Final and then two weeks later, I had to go to Madrid.

"Then there was the move to Tottenham, so I had to change clubs and change lifestyle in a short space of time and maybe it was a little bit too much.

"But I've had a fantastic season. The season is long and you have your ups and your downs but to have scored 15 goals at the end of it - I'm happy."
