Edwin van der Sar has his fingers crossed for former Manchester United teammate Darren Fletcher.
The Scotland international is again sidelined by a chronic bowel problem but former goalkeeper van der Sar hopes he can make a full recovery in order to get back to contributing for both club and country.
"I spoke to Darren earlier in the season and, at that time, he was playing," he told SunSport.
"The problem recurred and it is very unfortunate for him and for Scotland. Hopefully, he will be back soon because he is a great player."
