Van der Sar: De Gea can handle Man Utd pressure

Retired Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar says David De Gea can handle the pressure of succeeding him.

De Gea was part of the Atletico Madrid side that defeated Fulham in the 2010 Europa League final and also helped Spain secure the European Under-21 Championship last month.

And, on a United promotional tour of the Far East, the 40-year-old explained why he thinks De Gea will be a success.

"They (United) scouted all over Europe and found a couple of targets and they chose de Gea," Van der Sar told the Manchester Evening News.

"Hopefully, he's going to have a great career at Manchester United.

"He's very talented. He's already won a trophy with Atletico Madrid and the Spain Under-21 team so the prospect of him doing well is there.

"Everybody has to be his own person but I've met him. I've spoken to him and it looks to me as though he can handle it."
