Van der Meyde wants to fight for Everton future

Andy van der Meyde has declared he wants to stay and fight to save his Everton career.

"I have not had the best times of times at Everton," revealed van der Meyde to evertonTV.

"I know I can do better and I want to please everybody as well as myself. I have been unlucky with injuries and I am trying to start afresh.

"I am passionate about football and it is frustrating when you have been training all week not to play on the Saturday - but that is football.

"The only person to blame is myself and this season I will do better."

With the forthcoming campaign just over a month away, van der Meyde is aiming to get a good pre-season under his belt.

"I just want to have a good pre-season and be in the starting 11 for the first match," he said.

"I can't wait for the season to start and it is up to me to do the best I can and the rest is up to the gaffer."
