Dave van den Bergh is weighing up his options at New York Red Bulls. The Dutch midfielder admitted after the MLS Cup final defeat to Columbus Crew: "I've had a good two years in New York.
"I will ask the club to let me know (whether it will offer a new deal)."
Van den Bergh said the Bulls have until a week from today to let him know of their plans. Asked if he wanted to return, van den Bergh replied, "Really, it's not up to me. That's the best answer I can give you right now. There have been some talks. Up to now, they have not culminated in anything."
If a deal cannot be reached, van den Bergh said he wants to be with a club as soon as possible.
"I have to keep my options open just in case I do not come to an agreement with New York and MLS," he told the New York Daily News. "So ... my family comes first. This is the way I make a living. So I have to make sure I do have a job on Jan.1. I do have to look outside the league as well just in case."
