Bayern Munich midfielder Mark van Bommel believes the injury suffered by Holland teammate Robin van Persie will force clubs like Arsenal to rethink their approach to international friendlies.
Van Persie's injury fuels the ongoing row between Europe's biggest clubs and FIFA over the need for insurance and compensation for players hurt representing their countries.
Van Bommel, the Bayern Munich captain and Holland midfielder, said: "It will make big European clubs think twice about letting players go. It seems at every friendly a player gets seriously injured."
