Ernesto Valverde wants to bring one of his Athletic Bilbao players with him to Barcelona.

Valverde is expected to be confirmed as new Barca coach on May 29, immediately after the final of the Copa del Rey.

Diario Gol says Valverde has spoken with Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu about strengthening their defence and wants to make Yeray Alvarez the first signing of his reign.

Both have agreed Alvarez would be welcome addition and negotiations with Bilbao will be launched next week.

The stopper can play in a variety of positions, with Valverde identifying the need for better defensive cover at Barca for next season.
