Valencia unveil revised stadium plans

Valencia has unveiled a scaled back redesign for its long-delayed Nuevo Mestalla project, but has stressed that its new stadium will remain one of the world's leading venues when it is completed, reports Soccerex Business Daily. Valencia had been due to move into the 75,000-seat Nuevo Mestalla in time for the 2009-10 season but found itself plagued with the same financial worries that have affected many of its Spanish counterparts.

Under the terms of the new design, seating capacity will be reduced from 75,000 to 65,000 but the club said this will result in fans receiving 10-15% more seating space. The cost of the facility has also been scaled back to Eur200 million.

Valencia will now seek funding for building work to restart and while club president Amadeo Salvo didn't place a date on when this would begin, he stated the stadium will take 18 months to complete.
