Manchester United fullback Antonio Valencia is in line to captain the team for their Europa League final clash with Ajax.

Skipper Wayne Rooney and vice-captain Michael Carrick are due to start on the bench, while Chris Smalling could also miss out, reports the Manchester Evening News.

If United do beat Ajax it could, however, be Rooney who picks up the silverware in what could be his last United appearance.

He lifted the Community Shield in August when he was a starter against Leicester City but also lifted the EFL at Wembley in February when he was an unused sub in the win against Southampton.
