Valencia are set to beat Everton to the signing of Lyon defender Mouctar Diakhaby.

France Football says Everton failed in a bid to sign Diakhaby.

The Blues reportedly offered the same amount as Spanish outfit Valencia - a £13m fee plus add-ons - but have been turned down in favour of a switch to the Mestalla with Champions League football on the table.

Diakhaby will finalise his move with Valencia in the coming days as he agrees a 5-year-deal. Newcastle also made a move, but Everton lodged a bid at the start of the week in an attempt to land the 21-year-old.
