Valencia have told Manchester City they can complete the signing of David Silva after the World Cup.
The Sunday Mirror says City have been told by Valencia to put their pursuit of Silva on hold until after the World Cup.
City CEO Garry Cook is understood to have met Valencia president Manuel Llorente this week over the £30million-rated Spain star.
City face stiff competition from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan and Llorente claims negotiations are on hold until Spain's World Cup campaign is over.
"Yes, some clubs have asked about David Silva," said Llorente.
"This is normal because he is one of our key players and a Spain international. However, this subject is closed until the end of the World Cup.
"If we do receive a formal offer we will study it and decide what is best for the football club."
