Super Deportes says Valencia chiefs met with Van der Wiel's representatives in Madrid to discuss the prospect of a January move.
Van der Wiel is weighing up his options at Ajax after being barracked by his own fans earlier this season.
The Holland fullback's contract runs to 2013.
