Valencia sack coach Pako Ayestaran

Valencia have sacked coach Pako Ayestaran.

The 53-year-old has been dismissed with Los Che rooted to the bottom of the table after losing all of their opening four LaLiga matches.

A club statement read: "After today's meeting of the club's board, Valencia have taken the decision to relieve coach Pako Ayestaran of his position.

"The decision was taken after analysing the current sporting situation and the team's results."

Ayestaran was named caretaker coach in March following the dismissal of former Manchester United defender Gary Neville, who had brought him to the club.

Ayestaran, who was Rafael Benitez's assistant during Valencia's title-winning season in 2004 before following his fellow Spaniard to Liverpool, was then handed the job on a permanent basis in May - until June 2018 - after leading Los Che away from relegation trouble and to a 12th-placed finish.

The club statement added: "Valencia want to thank the involvement, effort and professionalism of Pako Ayestaran and his coaching staff during their time in charge of the team. The club will wish them all the best for the future."

Voro Gonzalez has been put in temporary charge while Valencia search for a successor to Ayestaran.
