Cash-strapped Valencia will have to hand little-used fullback Asier del Horno an improved contract at the end of this season.
The former Chelsea defender signed a deal which guaranteed an improvement after each season - and despite playing just seven Liga games this term he will be due a new pay-rise.
Marca says Del Horno's salary will rise to near £1.8 million - which puts him close to the club's top earners, David Villa and David Silva.
