Manchester United are stepping up their pursuit of Valencia star David Villa.
The Daily Star Sunday says United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has had his scouts making regular checks on the Valencia marksman in the last few weeks.
It’s now accepted that Villa, 28, will move on and all Europe’s big spenders will be involved in the battle – Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool, who are United’s Old Trafford opponents today.
But United, who also retain a strong interest in another Valencia star – midfielder David Silva – are the club said to appeal most to Villa.
A top Spanish source said: “Manchester United are the favourites to get Villa.”

Good input.at least 4 whatever short period he is going to be a great time 4 man u.i can imagine a whole lot of players far older than him and still plays wel.age barrier is nt always a problem for some players like that.
Everyone is saying about his age.. Strikers generally peak at 27ish. At 28 yes he isnt getting any younger but surely this mans goal threat and pure natural speed and skill would justify his 30mil price tag. 157 appearances for valencia with 104 goals, and with the chances manchester united create i could only see him settling straight away and starting his career with 30-40 goals. Rooney and Villa would be an exciting prospect and i suppose i wouldnt begrudge silva in the line up aswell. Although i do think we should buy 'British' Players.
JesusHeartsLFC glad to see someone who can make a decent conversation on this site!. Rooney and Villa would be amazing but his age is probably going to be his downfall, looking back at our last major transfer ( Berbatov ) it can be clearly seen that buying ageing players has not been the best option,Van der sar being an exception. I personally wouldnt say Villa who would possibly cost 30-35 mill would be worth the money or contract over a long period.
Again another personal idea, I would love to see Rooney alongside someone like Aguero who is amazing considering his age aswel he would be an ideal signing only downfall would be his price, and may take some time to get used to the premiership.
