Valencia chief Rufete says they remain hopeful of securing Jose Luis Gaya to a new deal.
With Real Madrid and Manchester City both keen, Gaya has rejected new contract talks.
But Rufete told AS: "We're on it, the less you know about the renovations, the better, because football is a market.
"We want him to continue in Valencia. Gayà, aged 19, is giving a yield of a 30 year-old player."
A deal to 2020 is on the table for Gaya to sign.
