Port Vale club chairman Bill Bratt has resigned from his post after eight years in the job. Director Mike Lloyd will take over the role in the short-term, with Bratt retaining his place on the board.
Vale shareholders recently gave the club's board, headed by Bratt, a vote of no confidence at an Extraordinary General Meeting in June.
Bratt told The Sentinel: "I have been thinking the decision over for a few weeks and it has been tough because I care for the club almost as much as I do for my family.
"I'm still, and always will be, a Port Vale fan, and that is why I want to remain a director.
"But the club is bigger than any one person and hopefully with a new chairman we can put all the protesting to bed."
