Valdes plays down Barcelona heroics

Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has played down his record clean sheet against Rangers this week.

Valdes has now gone 466 minutes in Europe without being beaten, beating the club record of 406 minutes set by Pere Valenti Mora over 30 years ago.

The last person to find a way past Valdes at this level was Liverpool's John Arne Riise during the first leg of last season's Champions League first knockout round tie in February.

Valdes played down his role in the success though, saying: "It is an important landmark but it is recognition for all the defence.

"I went a long time in the 2005-06 campaign without conceding but I don't want to make too much fuss about this.

"It will remain just a statistic until we qualify from the group and, hopefully, win back the Champions League."

He added: "I think that when you go a long time without conceding it is your concentration which counts, and I always think that I will be put under pressure at any second and I am always alert.

"It's a pleasure playing in this team and you have to be careful not to be distracted just watching the superb play of our midfielders and strikers."
